eading out of Coniston towards Hawkshead, just before leaving the village, there is a small stone bridge over Yewdale Beck. And just over that bridge is the detached slate Smithy Cottage, formerly the village blacksmith.

Whoever gets tasked with washing up really won’t mind as the window looks out towards the village, fells and Yewdale Beck flowing by.
In the kitchen there’s proof that this was once a family home – on the wall preserved under plastic, are the ever-increasing heights of the family children.
The living/dining room is enormous and continues the ‘new meets old’ theme. Two comfortable sofas face a modern fireplace with log burning stove; old insert drawers and plates on the walls hark back to a bygone age; a bay window allows visitors to daydream looking out over the beck, bridge and fells beyond.
